Location and Directions

The V.A. Poma Ranch is located in Hinsdale County in southwestern Colorado, about 23 miles northwest of Pagosa Springs. The Ranch is bordered on two sides by the San Juan National Forest.
GPS COORDINATES ARE:    37.48132N  107.24470W
Directions

From downtown Pagosa Springs drive 2.5 miles west up the hill on U.S. 160.  Turn right on Piedra Road (County Road 600).
Drive 6.4 miles on Piedra Road to the entrance of the San Juan National Forest.  The pavement ends as you cross a cattle guard and enter the San Juan National Forest.  The road name remains Piedra Road but the number changes to National Forest Road 631.

Continue on Piedra Road (FR 631) another 17 miles to the V.A. Poma Ranch sign.  Take a hard left at the Ranch sign and proceed down the Ranch drive along the Weminuche River for about a half mile.  At the bridge, take a right and follow the white fence another half mile or so to the Ranch House.

The map below shows the route to the Ranch.   Note there are three slight forks on Piedra Road.  Always bear left and you won't miss it.  Those forks are indicated on the map.

Caution:  We are in a rural location with a street address [23747 Piedra Road] that is not listed with some mapping and GPS software.  To avoid getting lost, we advise you to use the directions above rather than Mapquest, Google or other similar programs.
However, for those who prefer, a Google map is shown below which can be expanded with directions right from your home or origin.

Click on the map controls in the upper left corner of the map above to zoom in, zoom out, and pan up, down, left, and right.  Or place your cursor over the map to drag it in any direction.  Also, you can use the buttons in the upper right corner of the map to see a satellite view or a view of the terrain. Google does not recogize the street address.

Though we are in a valley, the Weminuche Valley, we are still located at 8,000 feet elevation just below the continental divide.  With low humidity, the summer days are pleasant and the evenings are cool.
