THE VA POMA RANCH IS LOCATED: About 23 miles north of Pagosa Springs on good county roads. It's away from the city and near the continental divide with bright starlit nights and streams and trails to explore by day. The ride up is through a pastoral alpine valley with everchanging views of trout streams and peaks on the divide. There are no difficult passes enroute. FROM DOWNTOWN PAGOSA:
From the downtown City Market, drive 2.4 miles west on US 160 to the stop light at the top of the hill. Turn right onto PIEDRA ROAD (CR 600) and drive 6.4 miles to the end of the pavement. Continue straight ahead on PIEDRA ROAD (now FR 631) for 17 miles to the VA Poma Ranch sign on your left. NOTE: At 6.75 miles from the end of the pavement, stay left on FR 631 as FR 633 bears right up the hill. At 11.5 miles from the pavement, bear left again as you pass Sportsman’s Supply and FR 636. AT 15.6 miles from the pavement, bear left one more time as you pass FR 640 to Williams Creek Reservoir. At the VA Poma Ranch sign, turn left and drive ˝ mile, cross the bridge and continue for another 0.8 miles across the valley to the Ranch headquarters. |
FROM FAIRFIELD/SUNETHA: From McDonalds, drive east on US 160 for 2 miles to the stop light at the top of the hill. Turn left onto Piedra Road (CR 600) and proceed for 6.4 miles to the end of the pavement. From there, follow the directions in the first paragraph.
FROM THE JUNCTION OF US 160 AND NORTH PAGOSA BOULEVARD: Turn north (toward the mountains) and drive 6.6 miles to the Piedra Road (CR 600). Turn left for ˝ mile to the end of the pavement. From there, follow the directions in the second paragraph above.
